America 250: 1776, Then and Now

1776, Then and Now

How did the United States come to be and what does that origin story mean for us today? This course explores that question by examining the American Revolution during its 250th anniversary with the help of renowned professors from WashU and around the country.

The Danforth Center on Religion and Politics at WashU has released a free public lecture course called 1776, Then and Now , for the 250th anniversary of the founding. Big-name scholars (Danielle AllenEddie Glaude Jr., and more) on the Revolution and why it still matters — including a whole section on religion, secularism, and religious liberty in the founding era (lead by some of my esteemed colleagues at the Danforth Center). Worth your time.

Gemini: The John C. Danforth Center on Religion and Politics at Washington University in St. Louis is explicitly non-partisan. Its foundational mission is to serve as an open, academic venue for rigorous scholarship, public instruction, and civil debate without promoting any single ideological or religious perspective
